Senior Hamas member Saleh al-Arouri assassinated in Lebanon

Hezbollah TV station reports that Saleh al-Arouri, a senior Hamas official, was killed in an alleged drone strike conducted by Israel near Hamas’s office in the suburb of Beirut, Dahiyeh.
The Lebanese state news agency attributes the explosion to an Israeli drone strike, with footage showing a burning car in front of a high-rise building, suggesting that the vehicle was the target of the attack.
If confirmed as an Israeli assassination, the killing of Arouri would signify a significant escalation in Israel’s conflict with Hamas and Hezbollah, the powerful Lebanese militant group backed by Iran.
Hamas later confirmed Arouri’s death. Arouri, a key figure in Hamas and a founder of its military wing, had been residing in Lebanon in recent years.
The area, bombed heavily during the second Lebanon war in 2006, hosts the offices of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, had previously made threats against Arouri. Israeli officials have chosen not to comment on the incident.
The exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah have primarily occurred near the border, but Israel’s air force has targeted Hezbollah in deeper parts of Lebanon on multiple occasions.
Further details will be provided soon…
