Pope Francis discloses that he has no intention of being laid to rest within the Vatican precincts.

Pope Francis has announced that he will depart from tradition and simplify papal funerals by choosing to be laid to rest in the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, instead of the grottoes beneath St Peter’s Basilica. This decision showcases his ongoing efforts to break from longstanding Vatican customs. In an interview with Mexican broadcaster N+, the Pope mentioned that he had already prepared his tomb in the Rome basilica, where he frequently visits to pray. Despite his declining health, Francis stated that he has no intention of resigning.
