Pets stealing the spotlight: furry companions becoming the stars of family holiday photographs.

Photos with Santa have become a tradition for Australian kids, and now even our furry friends are joining in on the fun. Kiki Bermudez, a real estate agent from Sydney, organized the first Santa Paws event in November to ensure that pets also have the opportunity to take photos with Santa. The event, which raised funds for local animal shelters, featured two Santas who were busy posing with a new dog every five minutes. This trend of including pets in Santa photo sessions is growing, with a 54% increase in bookings at Westfield shopping centres over the past three years. Courtney Hughes, who has been taking Santa portraits with her siblings since childhood, has started her own business offering Christmas photos for pets. She has seen a rise in inquiries and is considering hiring a Santa for future years. Hughes has noticed that not only young couples with pets, but also families with older dogs, are eager to capture these cherished moments. It exemplifies a shift in how pets are now considered as part of the family. “Christmas involves the whole family,” says Hughes.
