Former coach of the year, Mike Vrabel, gets terminated by the Tennessee Titans.

The Tennessee Titans have terminated the contract of Mike Vrabel, a former NFL coach who was awarded Coach of the Year in 2021. Despite leading the team to consecutive winning seasons and an appearance in the AFC championship game, the Titans had disappointing records in the past two years and have decided to make significant changes to their coaching staff. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the team wants to overhaul their staff. The Titans finished the 2023 season with a 6-11 record, but many of their losses were by a narrow margin.
“I have high expectations for the football team and every aspect of the Titans organization,” said Amy Adams Strunk, the team’s controlling owner. “We aim to compete for championships, not just produce more wins than losses. Though this season was disappointing, I see progress being made. We have a promising young quarterback and talented players on our roster. This offseason, with a coaching search, cap space, and a Top 10 draft position, is crucial to our future. I’m excited for what lies ahead.”
The firing of Vrabel came as a surprise to star running back Derrick Henry. He expressed shock and praised Vrabel as a leader and great coach. Henry believes that Vrabel will soon have another opportunity in coaching.
Vrabel, who had a successful career as a player with the Patriots, has been speculated as a potential successor to Bill Belichick as head coach in New England. Recent days have seen several head coaches lose their jobs, including Ron Rivera of the Washington Commanders and Arthur Smith of the Atlanta Falcons. Speculation surrounds the future of Belichick after the Patriots had their worst record during his time as coach.
