Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo achieves historic 64-point performance, overshadowed by altercation after the game

Giannis Antetokounmpo engaged in a heated argument with members of the Indiana staff before storming towards the Pacers’ locker room on Wednesday night after his record-breaking 64-point performance, resulting in a dispute over the game ball.

Following Milwaukee’s 140-126 victory, Antetokounmpo had a lively discussion with Indiana’s Tyrese Haliburton and other players before hastily making his way from the court towards the Indiana locker room in search of the game ball.

After the game, Indiana coach Rick Carlisle revealed that the Pacers had taken the game ball for Oscar Tshiebew, who scored his first NBA point in the game, leading to a confrontation between both teams in the arena hallway.

Bucks guard Cameron Payne confirmed that he was among the players who followed Antetokounmpo down the tunnel. “He just wanted his ball, man,” Payne stated. “I’m sticking with my team and helping my teammate. There was just a lot of commotion, honestly.”

Carlisle mentioned that several Bucks players were present near the Indiana locker room and a confrontation ensued, resulting in the Indiana general manager getting elbowed in the ribs. “What happened after the game was unfortunate,” Carlisle explained. “There was a misunderstanding about the game ball. We didn’t consider Giannis’ franchise record, so we took the ball. A few minutes later, some of their players ended up in our hallway, and there was a big altercation. I’m not sure what to call it – a brawl, melee, or something. I don’t think any punches were thrown, but my general manager got elbowed in the ribs by one of their players. He definitely has a bruised rib, but we don’t know if it’s something more than that. It’s a really unfortunate situation.”

Carlisle pointed out that tensions had been rising between the teams due to their recent matchups, including Indiana’s victory over Milwaukee in the semi-finals of the In-Season Tournament in Las Vegas last Thursday night.
