Belgian market square tragedy claims woman’s life as Christmas tree collapses

A Christmas market in the Belgian town of Oudenaarde experienced a tragic incident as a 20-metre high tree collapsed during stormy weather, resulting in two people being injured. Authorities confirmed that a 63-year old woman from Oudenaarde lost her life in the incident. The investigation will focus on determining whether the tree was properly secured and the impact of the weather conditions. Storm Pia, which also affected the UK and the Netherlands, led to transportation disruptions and a yellow code warning for coastal areas in western Belgium. In the Netherlands, a woman tragically passed away after being struck by a falling tree due to the storm.
