An adolescent taken into custody following fatal stabbing of woman in south London

Metropolitan police say a 16-year-old boy, who is known to the victim, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. The arrest follows the stabbing death of a woman in Bermondsey, south London, on Christmas Eve. The Metropolitan police received a call about a 22-year-old woman with a stab injury at a residential property on Jamaica Road. Despite receiving emergency first aid from paramedics, the victim died at the scene. The suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident and is currently in custody at a south London police station. The local policing commander for Southwark expressed his condolences to the victim’s family and friends, stating that additional patrols would be conducted in the area for reassurance. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Met’s specialist crime command. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to come forward. A postmortem examination is scheduled for Tuesday.
