A man has been taken into custody on suspicion of committing murder after a woman was stabbed in London.

A 32-year-old woman’s body was discovered in Honor Oak, south-east London, after a 38-year-old man surrendered himself to the police, with the suspect now being held on suspicion of murder.

The man went to a police station in the early hours of Wednesday morning, claiming to have harmed the woman who was later found stabbed to death. The Metropolitan police confirmed the arrest and stated that the man had been taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure before being held in custody.

DCI Matt Webb, leading the investigation, assured the local community that no other suspects are being sought and there is no immediate threat to the public. He expressed condolences to the victim’s family and emphasized the tragic nature of the incident.

A police cordon has been established at the scene while forensic officers examine the house where the crime occurred. Neighbors described the victim as a mother of young children who had rented a house on the street for approximately 18 months. The community has been left shocked by the incident.

Police are reviewing footage from a neighbor’s doorbell camera for potential evidence. Ch Supt Trevor Lawry, responsible for policing in the area, expressed understanding and support for the residents affected by the tragic incident.

The victim’s family has been notified, and a postmortem examination will be conducted as part of ongoing investigations.
