A female pedestrian and her two canine companions lose their lives in a suspected hit-and-run incident in Essex.

A man has been apprehended by the Metropolitan police following an incident in which Marie Theobald lost her life while walking her dogs in Chigwell.

Only days before Christmas, a suspected hit-and-run accident took place in Essex, resulting in the tragic deaths of Marie Theobald, 48, from Hainault, along with her two dogs, Riley and Honey. The incident occurred on Manford Way, Chigwell, when a car, believed to be a white Seat Leon, collided with Marie.

Despite the immediate response of emergency services, who were alerted at 5.09pm on Friday, Marie and her dogs were declared dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop at the site of the incident, but the Seat Leon was located nearby shortly after, according to the Metropolitan police.

A man has been arrested in connection with the crash and has been taken into police custody.

In a statement released by Theobald’s family, they expressed their grief: “Marie was a loving mother, daughter, sister, niece, and friend. She was an honest, hardworking, selfless woman who always prioritized the well-being of others.

The family also emphasized the special bond Marie shared with her dogs, Riley and Honey: “They were cherished members of the family and adored Marie just as much as she adored them. May they all find eternal peace together. The family kindly requests that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.”
